SUPER JUNIOR and U17 TEAM STAFF
JOHN MIDDLETON - Director and Head Coach
John Middleton is the founder of Team Central. He attended Western New England College (D3) and graduated in 1987. While at WNEC, he played Lacrosse and Hockey. Head coach Algonquin High School 2000-2002. 2003 National Senior All Star Game Coach, North Team and won Championship. Head coach 2003 & 2004 Bay State games Central Region Team, took the Silver Medal in 2004. Area Chairman for U.S. Lacrosse Central MA. 2001 Metro-West Coach of the Year. Coached in New Jersey for 7 years prior to relocation to MA. He is also Certified with US Lacrosse Coaches Education Program through Level 1 and 2 along with having a Double-Goal Coach Certifcation with the Positive Coaching Alliance.
TOM BAKER - Assistant Coach
Tom Baker is new to the area but not new to the game of lacrosse. A native of Long Island, NY, Tom played lacrosse and football for two years at Baltimore Junior College. While playing for Baltimore from 1971 to 1973 he was awarded first team All American (for lacrosse, defense), All-JUCO, All-Region and was selected captain of the NJCAA 1973 South All-Star Team. In 1973 he received a full scholarship for football to the University of Pittsburgh. Tom was the head coach at Eden Prairie High School, Minnesota(reaching the State Semi Finals in his first year 13-1) and named 2002 US Lacrosse "Man of the Year" in Minnesota. Since moving to Massachusetts Tom has been the head coach at Shrewsbury High School from 2003-2004 and is currently an assistant coach at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury. Tom was named 2004 US Lacrosse "Man of the Year" for Central Massachusetts. He currently plays with the Minneapolis Lacrosse Club (6 years).
RICHARD ESPINAL-Assistant Coach A 4 year standout at Holy Cross (D1) as a Defenseman and LSM, Rich is presently the assistant boys lacrosse at the Brooks School. He attended Pomfret School and PG'd at Northfield Mount Herman where he played football and lacrosse. He also works in the Admissions Office at Brooks in addition to being a Dorm Parent.
STEVE FALCONER - U17 Head Coach
The head coach and founder of the Northbridge High School Lacrosse Team, Steve has been influential in the growth of lacrosse in Central Massachusetts. In 2006 he was named the Central Mass Chapter of US Lacrosse "Man of the Year." Involved with Team Central since 2004, Steve is also a football coach at Northbridge. Previously he coached in the Walpole, MA youth lacrosse program. A Political Science major, Falconer graduated in 1997 from D-III Salem State College where he played defense and long stick middie. He is also certified thru the Positive Coaching Alliance as a Double-Goal Coach.
MIKE ENGEL - Assistant Coach
Graduated from Newton North in 1995. Three year starting face off midfielder. Junior year was Boston Globe and Boston Herald all-scholastic. Senior year was High School All American and Boston Globe co-player of the year. He was also first team Bay State league all star as quarterback in football where he threw for over 1000 yards during his senior year. Mike attended Phillips Academy Andover for a pg year where he played and started for the football and lacrosse teams. Football team was 9-0 and won the New England Prep Championship.
Attended Trinity College (D3) (CT) and graduated with an english lit degree in 2000. Started for four years and still hold all time faceoff percentage records at Trinity. Was an assistant on the varsity at St. Johns Shrewsbury and ran the frosh team there in 2005. Was offered the head coaching job at Marian high in 2006 leading them to more wins in his first two years than all previous years combned just missing the State Playoffs in 2008 He also holds a Masters Degree in Guidance Counseling from UMASS. Mike is now a full-time guidance counselor at Everett High School.
MATT KINNE– Assistant Coach
A native of Homer, NY, Matt is a gradute of Ithaca College (D3) (Ithaca, NY) where he played defense for the Bombers. From 1998-1999 he served as a graduate assistant coach at Monroe Community College. From 2000-2001 Matt played for the Orlando Lacrosse Club (Florida). Most recently he was the assistant coach at the Key School in Annapolis, MD. Matt specializes in working with goalies and defense. CHRIS WIDELO - Assistant Coach
Chris Widelo has been a fixture in Central Massachusetts lacrosse for over 10 years. A defenseman at Division II Assumption College in the early 90's, he went on to be an assistant coach at Assumption after graduation and spent six seasons as the school's head men's lacrosse coach. In 2005 Chris served as the assistant varsity lacrosse coach at St. Peter-Marian High School in Worcester. Currently he is an assistant coach at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA. Chris is Double-Goal certified by the Positive Coaching Alliance and has completed Level One of the U.S. Lacrosse Coaches' Certification Program. Still active on the club level, Chris plays defense and long stick middieforthe Sandy PointLacrosse Club out of Maryland.
VINCENT JACQUES - Assistant Coach
A native of Southbridge, Ma, graduated from St. John's High School in 1998, where he played football before the introduction of competitive lacrosse to the Central Mass area. After receiving a B.A. in Theology from Boston College in 2002, he now teaches and coaches at Saint Peter Marian High School. For the past four years, he has been involved as a coach with the SPM lacrosse, football and strength and conditioning programs. He is now entering his third year as the boy's varsity coach and hopes to contribute to the growth of lacrosse in Central Mass.
BRIAN GERAGHTY - Assistant Coach
Brian Geraghty is the head coach for boys' lacrosse at the St. Mark's School in Southborough. Prior to graduating from the Canterbury School, Brian represented the United States in the high school division for the 1987 World Lacrosse Games in Australia. A 1992 graduate of Union College, Brian competed for the Dutchmen in both varsity hockey and lacrosse. Brian earned a Master of Education degree from St. Michael's College in Colchester, VT and, while completing his degree, helped assist in taking the Mount Mansfield Union High School lacrosse team from club to varsity status in 1996. Since moving to Massachusetts, Brian has been the head varsity lacrosse coach and assistant varsity hockey coach at Catholic Memorial high School in West Roxbury from 1999-2003 and the head hockey and lacrosse coach at the Fay School from 2003-2006. At St. Mark's, Brian also coaches boys' JV hockey, teaches physics, and is a dorm parent on campus with his wife Deb. STEVE GAUDREAU - Assistant Coach
Steve is a graduate of St. Anselm's College where he was a 3 year starter as a face-off middie where he was a NEILA Division 2 All-Star. Prior to St. Anselm's, Steve played at Clark University where he was the 2000 Pilgrim League Rookie of the Year and lead his team in scoring with 26 goals. He has coached at Bow High School in New Hampshire leading them to the Division 2 State Championship in 2004. In 2006, He lead St. Bernards High School to their first District Playoff win in route to being named Central Mass Coach of the Year.
RON WESTGATE - Goalie Coach
Ron played 4 years of varsity lacrosse at Sandwich High where he was the 2 time captain and team MVP. He was also a 3 time All-Cape and Islands All-Star Selection in goal. Ron played goal for Providence College (D1) where he was a 3 year captain leading his team to the MAC Championship in "04, "05 and "06. He also had 2 NCAA tournament appearances ('04 vs. Johns Hopkins & '06 vs. Hofstra) to his credit. NATE EVANS - Assistant Coach
A native of the Rochester, NY area, Nate is a 4 year standout at LeMoyne College (D2) in Syracuse, NY. He helped lead Lemoyne to won/loss record of 62-2 over 4 years. In addition, he was a member of 4 NCAA D2 National Champion games where Lemoyne won 2 of 4 National Championships. Nate is presently working in the Lacrosse World and working out with the Boston Cannons of the MLL.
Various present college players will be assisting and coaching with Team Central each summer and fall.
NICK CROWLEY - Assistant Coach
A native of East Walpole, MA, Nick attended Manhattan College (D1) in Riverdale, NY. At Manhattan, Nick was a starting midfielder for three seasons and served as team captain his senior year. After graduating in May 2006 he traveled to Manchester, England where he served as a lacrosse development officer at the Brooklands Hulmeians lacrosse club. He currently resides in South Boston.
